Crossing off my Bucket list One Item at a Time

First off I just want to say that I crossed off one of my top bucket list items! I FINALLY got to go see the the New York Yankees in the BRONX. I LOVED every minute of it! Yankees stadium was UHHH Maze ING.

The day went by in a blink of an eye! The whole day went so well and everyone enjoyed themselves and had a ball! We started the day off by leaving camp at 5:45A.M. (usually mornings are hard for me to get up but I was wide awake and ready to go) We ended up getting into Albany around 7:10A.M. the Mega bus was 30mins late picking us up and we didn't leave until 8am. (I was a little upset because that threw our whole day off). Mega bus is a double decker bus that takes you NYC, Albany, New Jersey, Philadelphia and a few other places for cheap. Because of the morning Wednesday traffic being a little heavy (or just NYC traffic in general) we didn't end up being dropped off until 11:20 (we were suppose to get there at 10:30) We hurried off the bus and from there on the whole day it was go go go go go!

As soon as we got off the bus, we sped walked to see the Empire State Building and part of Times Square. We had to hurry because we needed to make the 1:05pm game that was up north. That was a 20min subway ride. On the way to find the subway green line we were stopping at a few shops looking for Yankees shirts for the other girls. Needless to say we were 5 mins late for the game :( Bummer cause I was really hoping to see the start of the game. ( But I can't complain, I was happy just being there) I walked in the stadium and starting yelling like a little girl in excitement because I couldn't believe I was actually there!!! (They had  to snap me back into reality before I got left behind while they were headed to the seats) I was so excited that I didn't even realize we were late or what time it was!

The stadium was absolutely amazing!!! Not a bad seat in the house (unless you had the seat behind the pillars) We had upper deck seats and were 3rd row, so we weren't too far up. We were directly behind the visitor dugout, just higher up. We could see everything in the stadium from there, so beautiful and designed well. During the 3rd inning we got up to go get some food and of course a beer. Best $20 I've ever spent! Not even mad about it! We ended up missing the biggest inning of the game where the Yankees scored 7 runs. It had started raining a little bit right before that, so a lot of people left and because it was a week day game a lot of seats behind home plate were open as well. I thought we could just go down there and get better seats. (I've done it before plenty other times and just left if people came and claimed their seats) I was sadly mistaken, you definitely can NOT do that in Yankees Stadium. They had to check your ticket to make sure you actually have seats down there!

We headed back to our seats and enjoyed the rest of the game. Danced to the YMCA, sang the Take me Out to the Ball Game, took pictures and even got on the Jumbo Tron. It actually took us a few seconds to realize the whole entire stadium could see us dancing to twist and shout. My mate Stacey is from England and she didn't know the rules of the game, so I gave her the low down on the ride down. By the end of the game she was calling foul balls and pretty proud she knew what that meant.

We stayed until the end of the game. Yankees won 11 to 3. We got right back on to the subway to spend the last of our day in Time Square. We had just a little over 2 hours to get to the Train station and be tourist for the day. Boy you could definitely tell I wasn't from NY. My photos aren't the best because half the time I was taking them as I was walking. I really didn't get to sit there and admire anything, (except for the stadium of course) It was all such a fast day. Even when we were hanging out in Time square, there was just so much to look at and see, all I remember were tall building, lots of people, lights, and cars not going anywhere.

I love hotdogs!!! It must be because I've been around baseball my whole life, but I do. Anyways so another thing that I absolutely had to do while I was in NYC was have a hotdog in New York!!! There was all thisch hype about how good they were. I thought it was okay, but I think I'll just stick to my Oscar Myer Wiener bun length hotdogs.

I can't get over how great my day was and how lucky I was able to see the Yankees and experience New York City. I am a very happy girl!!!

I miss you all and can't wait to see you!
Next Thrusday morning I'll be home!

Love you all

Rain rain don't go away...

Helllllooo Everybody!
How's the rain Midwest?? Heard we finally got some, didn't hear how much but some is better than none! I don't mean to brag but weather this summer in New York has been awesome, I don't think I have ever had weather like this before! Barely any humidity! (what's that like right???) It hasn't really gotten past the 90s and if it has its only been a few times. I hear a lot of people around here complain how hot it is, but they really don't know what hot is if they're complaining about this weather!!! It has been cloudy and rainy here the last few days but I don't mind it at all, it is kind of relaxing.

So Parents day went very well. Kids were all very excited and didn't want them to leave, lunch was done buffet style on the main lawn and families had picnics. I don't think I have seen as many Range Rovers, Bentley, Enclaves and Maserati in my life time, as I seen on visiting day! Can you say NICEEEEE CARS!!!!! Hoooollllyy Moooollly. You could definitely tell these parents had some money, that's for sure. haha sorry so blunt but it's true. I talked to a few parents as I drove them to the farm and they were very nice! It was my first time going to the farm and oh my gosh that place is amazing, so beautiful! The farm is located 5 miles from camp and it is about 9 acres. They have around 20 or less horses and the girls do all their riding out there. It is so green and just absolutely breath taking out there. (I'll post pictures as soon as I am able too)

I had my day off on Wednesday and we went to Saratoga Springs, which is about 45 mins away. We went to the horse races and that was a pretty sweet experience. It is one of the oldest tracks in the United States. I bet on a few races but I think I'll just stick to my day job, because I am horrible at betting and lost every race! Oh well it was a lot of fun and enjoyed my experience. They brought the horses through the park, so that we were able to be very close to them before they brought them out to the track. It was really sweet how they did that. The horse that was won the Belmont last year was racing, not sure how he did because we left. It was a pretty cheap day, we spent $3 to get in!!! You can bring in your own food, drinks and beer and have a little picnic if you wanted. After the races we went downtown Saratoga and walked around and went in a few different shops and went to the park. It has a very old historical look to all the buildings, very classy looking. The park was so beautiful and they also had a public carousel to ride for a dollar. Of course we did it!

Just so everyone knows I am finally crossing off my top bucket list item. I AM GOING TO A YANKKEES GAME AT YANKEES STADIUM AUG 1!!!! I can NOT wait!  I am soooo excited! I am pretty sure the whole camp knows I am going! We will leave bright and early that morning possibly hit up times square real fast and then the 1pm game and then train ride back home! I've been waiting for this day for awhile now! It's happening! You can definitely count on seeing LOTS of pictures for that!

Welll evening activity is almost done so I better get off!
Love and miss everyone!

Homerun Derby Tennis???

Sorry I haven't wrote in a long time!!! A lot has happened since I've wrote last. The office is usually the same routine everyday. Some days a little different than others but mostly the same things occur. Since I am part time driver I have to head to House Calls Pharmacy a few times a week. Last week was very chaotic, I had to make a trip to Albany and make three, not one but THREE trips to the hospital in one day. Don't worry nothing horribly bad happened and everyone is alright but was a very long day!

When I am not working in the office and activities are going on I try my best to get involved with the girls and join them. I had a split shift and was finally able to help with softball. I was really excited to teach the girls something that is a passion of mine. Although I only got to help two groups for tryouts I loved every minute of it. I was going to help with the softball tournament but unfortunately it was my day off.

I played tennis for the first time last week, let's just say I should probably stick to softball. I think if there was a home run derby in Tennis I would win. Tennis balls were launched in every direction and different courts and in the parking lot. It was probably very entertaining for the tennis staff. But I had a blast playing and I have had two practice sessions since then. I will join in with the campers while they are learning and do the different drills. They tennis staff is very helpful and have so much knowledge of the game. But that's obvious because they have been playing for years and are professional in Mexico. I really do enjoy playing and hopefully by the end of the summer I will be able to play at least at a decent level.

Along with tennis I have done archery, although when I was little I did archery but I hardly remember it so it was learning it all over again. I've only done it once and haven't made it back down. My Saturday I have a break from 2 till 6:30 so during that time I really try to get involved and the kids just love it. Most don't know who I am because they don't see much of me unless I am in the office when it is time for there phone call home. So they are curious of who I am, what I do, why I am in the office and if I like it. All so curious!!! It also gives me a chance to hangout with the campers and get to know some of them.

Today is Visiting Day for the Girls! I will make sure to write back a little bit later and let you guys know how it goes!

Such a short blog for so much going on!!! I promise I will write more soon! Hope everyone is enjoying there summer as much as I am. (I can't believe I come back less than a month) Love and miss everyone!

Always <3

Happy 4th

Happy 4th of July!!! I hope everyone enjoyed the holiday weekend!!! I usually spend my 4th at my aunts with all my family but this year I spent it at Lake George!!! It was my day off on Wednesday so I got to enjoy the whole day off! We hung out at the beach for a little bit went shopping got dinner and had drinks then watched fire works on the beach. It was really cool to see all the boats on the water watching the fireworks! I was a little disappointed the the show only lasted a little bit longer than 15mins. Thought it would have been a huge show but they're not abig into it as the Midwest is.

Camp has been pretty fun lately!!! Camp is split into teams of white and blue and compete every Sunday against each other in activities. The oldest group (peakers) decide who is on what team. The peakers let everyone know by having "Break Out" Break out can happen at anytime of the day and anywhere. This year the girls had an over night at the farm and decided to have break out at 7:15am the next morning arriving on a school bus and waking everyone up to Jackson 5's ABC 123 song. They did a dance and then divided the girls up. Sunday was competition day and the teams had a scavenger hunt. There was a list of over 100 items and they could of only be found in the cabins and would only be accepted if the item was visibly out. These items were no where near ordinary

The other night we had western night. They had an amazing meal and we ate out on the beach. They cooked BBQ ribs, chicken, baked beans, corn on the cob, salad, corn bread and it was sooooo good!!!! Girls dressed up in there Western wear and head down to the Rec Hall for some country dancing. It was a lot of fun but definitely tiring. Its great to feel like a a little kid again! :)

Phone calls home started the other day! The girls are only allowed three, 5min calls home the whole time at camp! The older girls get a few extra calls and call whoever they want. Sometimes after the little ones get off the phone they start crying, it breaks my heart to see them so sad. Most girls are loving camp and not home sick at all but there are a few girls that cry.

Mail has been absolutely horriblleeee!!!!! Because of the holiday we got all the mail today! We had easier over 400 letters!!!! To go through and mark bunks #'s and separating them by bunk and the same on packages it took from 2pm to after 5:30pm!!!!! Most of the time there was 3 of us working on it as well! Hopefully there won't be very much tomorrow!

I can't believe I've been at camp for a month now! Its been going by so fast!!! No I'm not homesick but of course I miss all my friends and family!!!

Ill write soon!

Love and miss everyone!
I'll post pictures soon!
Love

Camp life....

So I am sure some of you are wondering what exactly goes on at and camp and a little more about it!

The camp has been around since 1957 and most girls that come hear from word of mouth or their mothers and aunts went here years ago. Jim and Sue don't advertise the camp at all and somehow they manage to get 300 girls and be one of the top camps in the world! Last month’s issue of Town and Country (I’m pretty sure that is the magazine) we were ranked number one in best camp food and yes the food here is excellent!!! I’m eating a lot healthier, but always fit room for some candy and desserts! :) If the parents sneak the kids any kind of candy it gets confiscated, goes to Sheri (director) then the staff eats it :) How cruel to the kids huh, but that’s what the parents get for being sneaky and not listening to the rules :)

Bells ring at 7:45am to wake all the girls up, breakfast is at 8:15am and all activities start after we eat! Sheri will have announcements at every meal explaining what’s going on for the day or any surprise activity! Every day is full of activities and most of it is a surprise! There are about 8 activities that go on each day, which will be between breakfast, lunch, dinner, snack and mail time. The camp is split into waterfront (swimming, skiing, sailing, boating, canoeing) Team Sports (soccer, softball, lacrosse, basketball, etc.) The boys from Mexico teach Tennis-- most of the tennis instructors  are professional in Mexico or retired and just teach now. Then you have arts and crafts--a lot of shrinky dink goes on there! Then you have the rec hall where plays are put on every two weeks of camp. The rec hall also hold a lot of evening activities, it has a stage and is a big area for everyone to fit in. You also have the farm where the girls can horseback ride, garden and join the WAD squad. (WAD- Wilderness Adventure Discovery) They do a lot of hiking and wilderness stuff and camping. They also have fitness, where the girls train all summer for the 5k run!

There is tons more for the girls to do every day! I don't know everything that goes on because I am not with the girls and spend a lot of the time in the office when the activities are going on. At meal time I sit with the Ti's they are the youngest on camp. They are adorable and always tell me about there days, they want me to have a sleep over in there bunk with them one night!

The other day I had to take a little one to the ER... it was only the 3rd day on camp!!! She was fine no broken bones and nothing bad! Good news for her parents because last year she broke her arm!!! It turned out being a little special day for her because we missed dinner so we stopped for subway and then ICE CREAM!!!! While waiting in the ER I asked her if she knew anyone famous and come to find out she is in the same class as Jerry Seinfeld's daughter so she sometimes goes over for dinner!

Got a nice day off yesterday! (Wed) Went shopping with two Polish boys and 2 Mexican girls. Started off at the outlets in Lake George then we headed to Saratoga Springs for some shopping. It was a nice relaxing day. The weather was perfect that day, not to hot and not too cold!! Not like Omaha 104!!!! Later that evening went back to camp for a little bit and then a bus ( yes a big yellow school bus) took the staff to the bars in Lake George. Stacey (from England) turned 22 so we all helped her celebrate! Boyyyy was that nice to have a few beers, much needed!!!! Today (Thur) I had to do a little shopping in Glen Falls for the camp then came back in the office to finish mail! You guys would not believe how long it takes to get mail done!!!! Each letter has to go to a certain bunk (there’s over 30!) and we have to separate it them and we get 100s of letters every day!

Ever since the girls got here, there is no such thing as sleep! The girls in the bunk next to me are quite well uhh there a bunch of P.I.T.A.S (You can ask my dad if you don't know what one of those are :)-- They are the naughty group compared to all the other bunks. The campers are wide awake and running everywhere all day, I don't know how they don't just crash at night, I know a lot of the counselors are pretty beat after the last couple of days. They have been doing an awesome job working with the kids and keeping them under control!!!!

Tomorrow I will be doing some more running around the towns nearby!!! Then it’s our night to head to Suzy Q's!!! Hopefully I have some more interesting news for everyone!!!

If anyone has any questions feel free to ask me! Just message me and I’ll post a blogg about it!!!

I'd love to answer any thoughts or questions!!!
Good Night Everyone!

Love and Miss everyone!!!

Just a Few Bumps in the Road

So a lot has been going on since I have last blogged! I haven't been able to get on the Wii-Fi here in the library, its been busy with all of us staff members trying to use it. This blog may be a little longer than normal! So lets start where I left off at!

Its been normal around the office, still taking calls, getting things ready for camp and doing odds and ends. I have been doing a lot of driving to and from camp. I will continue doing a lot of driving whether it's shopping at Wal Mart, dropping of staff members who have days off at Lake George, or finishing picking up staff at the airport or train station.

On my last train pick up I had three polish boys and one polish girl, they all work in the kitchen and all the polish boys names had to be Tomasz!!! Must be a popular name because there is another kitchen guy already at camp named Tomasz as well!

Tuesday We had a mixer between our girls camp and the boys camp at Suzy Q's. They take a school bus and drop off loads of girls to get there. It was pretty fun we got to meet some of the staff at the other camp and just a time to have a few drinks and hang out with the girls.

When staff members have a day off they have an opportunity to go to Lake George, NY. That is about 30 min south of camp and a bus/van will do drop offs depending how many people want to go. It's a touristic town off on a 32mile long lake. It has a lot of shopping, putt putt, boating, para sailing, bars, food and a beach! On my day off this week I got to relax around camp for awhile layout and after the other office girl got off we went on her friends boat! (she lives in Chester Town, which is 5 miles from Brant Lake) Boating was a lot fun and the view was amazing. The water was a little cold but that didn't even faze me since it was like 94 degrees that day! I also got to go cliff jumping. That was pretty cool, but made me a little nervous!

I has quite the adventure last night! I found out early this week that I was doing a pick up at JFK airport in Queens, NY. I was so excited because that would be my first time even close to see NYC, even though it would only be the skyline! Myself and Sprinkle (Sara) and Kat left about 7am Friday morning. It was a 4 and half hour drive from the camp. We had sisters coming in from London and a girl from Dominican Republic. Drive there was perfectly fine, no bumps in the road, didn't sleep a wink because I was excited to see the scenery on the way down. We finally got to terminal 7 around 12:20ish where the sisters were and my job was to drop Sprinkle off and drop Kat off at terminal 4. (If you have never been to JFK airport it's not like the terminal are walking distance or even a straight shot driving.) By the way I was driving a huge 15 passenger van in New York traffic!!!! But that was the least of the worries once we got here! Before I even drive to drop Kat off Sprinkle noticed the van was driving funny. I drop off Kat and got back to terminal 7. (I was a little freaked out driving because I didn't even know if I was going the right way or not) By that time we were told to leave the van in Queens to get it worked on for the safety of everyone, and we were going to get a rental van. The sisters made it safe, within the span of 20mins of the girls arriving someone stole the older sisters iPhone. We figured it out that it was stolen b/c she had an AP that located it. We told securty and they called the police and reported it being stolen. (At this point while all of this was going on Sprinkle was dealing with the van issue) The older sister blamed it on the little one for getting stolen and they were fighting with each other about almost the whole time. So I had to deal with one crying and the other one mad at her. They can speak Spanish so of course when they were fighting I couldn't understand one bit! After 4 hours AAA still had not towed the van so we called another company and got that taken care. Down at terminal 4 her plane didn't land until 2 and took 2 hours to get through customs because 20 other flights arrived at the same time. She ended up meeting us at terminal 7 with Kat just in time to grab some dinner and get the rental van. Finally we were on our way back to camp and the girls were so excited. Only one more problem it was 6pm and in NY on a Friday night. Traffic was HORRRIBLEEE! From 6pm to 8:30 we probably traveled 30 miles! But we all arrived safe and sound around midnight! Good thing they let me sleep in this morning! :)

Campers finally arrived today! They were not kidding when they said it gets nuts around here when the kids come! Just about 95% of the girls arrive by charter bus. Parents drop them off at a few locations and then get dropped of here! You definitely know the campers arrive by all the screaming and yelling of excitement! They have a song for anything and everything, and I'm not even exaggerating.

Im curious to see how the rest of the week goes, so stay tuned!!!!

Love and Miss everyone!!!
Andrea :)

P.S.

I got a few letters in the mail this week! Made my day so keep em coming :)

I also took pictures, I will post them when I am on my laptop and get Wii-fi!
