So a lot has been going on since I have last blogged! I haven't been
able to get on the Wii-Fi here in the library, its been busy with all of
us staff members trying to use it. This blog may be a little longer
than normal! So lets start where I left off at!
Its been normal around the office, still taking calls, getting things ready for camp and doing odds and ends. I have been doing a lot of driving to and from camp. I will continue doing a lot of driving whether it's shopping at Wal Mart, dropping of staff members who have days off at Lake George, or finishing picking up staff at the airport or train station.
On my last train pick up I had three polish boys and one polish girl, they all work in the kitchen and all the polish boys names had to be Tomasz!!! Must be a popular name because there is another kitchen guy already at camp named Tomasz as well!
Tuesday We had a mixer between our girls camp and the boys camp at Suzy Q's. They take a school bus and drop off loads of girls to get there. It was pretty fun we got to meet some of the staff at the other camp and just a time to have a few drinks and hang out with the girls.
When staff members have a day off they have an opportunity to go to Lake George, NY. That is about 30 min south of camp and a bus/van will do drop offs depending how many people want to go. It's a touristic town off on a 32mile long lake. It has a lot of shopping, putt putt, boating, para sailing, bars, food and a beach! On my day off this week I got to relax around camp for awhile layout and after the other office girl got off we went on her friends boat! (she lives in Chester Town, which is 5 miles from Brant Lake) Boating was a lot fun and the view was amazing. The water was a little cold but that didn't even faze me since it was like 94 degrees that day! I also got to go cliff jumping. That was pretty cool, but made me a little nervous!
I has quite the adventure last night! I found out early this week that I was doing a pick up at JFK airport in Queens, NY. I was so excited because that would be my first time even close to see NYC, even though it would only be the skyline! Myself and Sprinkle (Sara) and Kat left about 7am Friday morning. It was a 4 and half hour drive from the camp. We had sisters coming in from London and a girl from Dominican Republic. Drive there was perfectly fine, no bumps in the road, didn't sleep a wink because I was excited to see the scenery on the way down. We finally got to terminal 7 around 12:20ish where the sisters were and my job was to drop Sprinkle off and drop Kat off at terminal 4. (If you have never been to JFK airport it's not like the terminal are walking distance or even a straight shot driving.) By the way I was driving a huge 15 passenger van in New York traffic!!!! But that was the least of the worries once we got here! Before I even drive to drop Kat off Sprinkle noticed the van was driving funny. I drop off Kat and got back to terminal 7. (I was a little freaked out driving because I didn't even know if I was going the right way or not) By that time we were told to leave the van in Queens to get it worked on for the safety of everyone, and we were going to get a rental van. The sisters made it safe, within the span of 20mins of the girls arriving someone stole the older sisters iPhone. We figured it out that it was stolen b/c she had an AP that located it. We told securty and they called the police and reported it being stolen. (At this point while all of this was going on Sprinkle was dealing with the van issue) The older sister blamed it on the little one for getting stolen and they were fighting with each other about almost the whole time. So I had to deal with one crying and the other one mad at her. They can speak Spanish so of course when they were fighting I couldn't understand one bit! After 4 hours AAA still had not towed the van so we called another company and got that taken care. Down at terminal 4 her plane didn't land until 2 and took 2 hours to get through customs because 20 other flights arrived at the same time. She ended up meeting us at terminal 7 with Kat just in time to grab some dinner and get the rental van. Finally we were on our way back to camp and the girls were so excited. Only one more problem it was 6pm and in NY on a Friday night. Traffic was HORRRIBLEEE! From 6pm to 8:30 we probably traveled 30 miles! But we all arrived safe and sound around midnight! Good thing they let me sleep in this morning! :)
Campers finally arrived today! They were not kidding when they said it gets nuts around here when the kids come! Just about 95% of the girls arrive by charter bus. Parents drop them off at a few locations and then get dropped of here! You definitely know the campers arrive by all the screaming and yelling of excitement! They have a song for anything and everything, and I'm not even exaggerating.
Im curious to see how the rest of the week goes, so stay tuned!!!!
Love and Miss everyone!!!
Andrea :)
P.S.
I got a few letters in the mail this week! Made my day so keep em coming :)
I also took pictures, I will post them when I am on my laptop and get Wii-fi!
